Raising Dough for your favorite charity!
 Baker for a day:

We help an organization to raise funds by baking hundreds of loaves of bread for them to sell in our bakery.  The organization keeps ALL THE MONEY!

Who benefits?
We’ve had a number of requests from organizations within our Burke and Lorton communities to host  a Baker for a Day for them. To be fair, we decided to let the community nominate and vote for a beneficiary. We will do the event for 2 organizations on the same day this year as we did last year – one in Burke and one in Lorton.

So, who gets to nominate or vote?
That’s simple.  Anyone who comes into the bakery – one nomination or vote per visit.

Which organizations can be nominated?

Organizations that…..
  • Are located within 3 miles (as the crow flies) of  Great Harvest in either Burke or Lorton,
  • Have the willingness and capability of marketing the event , and
  • Can supply enough volunteers to help produce and sell all the bread on the day of the event

Any exceptions?

Super-organizations like Robinson and Lake Braddock secondary schools may not participate as a whole (it’s gotta be fair), but organizations within the schools are welcomed, e.g.
  • School PTSA
  • School Boosters Organization
  • School Band and Orchestra

Any other rules?

You don’t have to belong to the organization you nominate. We all have a place in our hearts for Fisher House, homeless shelters etc, so feel free to nominate them.  We’ll make sure they can handle the logistics if they are nominated.

Here’s the porposed timeline ……..

2 weeks of Nomination Time starting August 18th thru August 30th.
Fill out a nomination form in the bakery and drop it in the collection box. Nominations will be validated and we will select the 8 most qualified organizations according the  criteria above.

2 weeks  of Voting Time ---- votes may be cast September 2nd thru September 13th
Fill out a voting form in the bakery and drop it in the collection box.  One vote per visit.

We will hold drawings to determine the winning organization at Great Harvest in Burke and in Lorton.
The winning 2 organizations will be drawn from the ballot box – it is NOT necesarliy the one with the most votes, however the more votes you have the better chance you have to win.
The drawing will be done September 13th.

Show your support for the winning community organization by buying a loaf from them at Great Harvest in Burke or Lorton
